brasil.3

whoops, blame facebook.  it's just so instant and easy and accessible.

i'm getting rather acquainted and comfortable in brasil.  already thinking about how to return as quickly as possible.  there's something about this experience that i can't put my finger on, but it knows exactly what my soul longs for and fills the air with it.  i've met so many spectacular people and gotten to know them, chatted with acquaintances and strangers alike freely, with a fierce wanting to learn the language through experience- successful and successless. (side note- i just pondered why there weren't any root-related adjectives for the noun failure. i mean, success is a noun and the adjective you just a little somethin' and bang! adjective.. but not for failure? i'm sorry failure, in the english language- you're an exception) <----i'll allow you one joke for that, i get it.

i knew from taking my first language classes in middle/high school that i liked learning about language-syntax, grammar,  and the relations between them.  (honestly, i learned more about english grammar through other languages than in any english class) but i think that from hearing my fathers family talking in italian/spanish, i developed an ear for the music of other languages(from pappy singing downstairs too) and with a way for replicating sounds i hear (PAPAGAIA)- i've taken to other languages very well. and this experience, complete submersion in a language that i only have 5 months worth of vocabulary and basic grammer (most of it so close to spanish that the transition was nearly seamless, though)- has been so challenging and EXHILARATING! i'm talking more than i do in the US- maybe english is just too easy for me =p.  i find making the correlations and associations exciting. so much so that i've looked into how to get certified to teach english- maybe when i'm here or upon a return =]

music for my ears during this song provided by alexandre bicudo and his band, mallavoodoo.  he is a recife-local guitarist that i've heard at monday blues sessions in recife antigo at (some bar i can't remember the name of right now, but it's on rua de bom jesus- literal translation "good jesus street").  thanks to a fine bassist, thiago, i know his name.

ate então- bjs (which doesn't mean what you think, americans =p)

brasil.2

so, i signed back into facebook- bad move, but "necessary" since i've met a lot of people here that keep facebooks instead of orkut =/

i've since become more comfortable with my portugues- especially after i've had a couple caipirinhas.  caipirinhas are the most popular drink here, made from cachaça- sugar cane liquor but it kind of tastes and smells like tequilla. anyways, yes- my portugues is phenomenal after a couple drinks =]
livraria cultura. the most kick ass bookstore ever, sorry barnes and nobles.

dear americans, catch on. see, looking and and sorting your "garbage" ain't that hard! yeah, i said ain't..for some reason my english is suffering here lol.

okay, so. i had to add this one just because the story is funny. well, these places ("motels")-in brasil- are only meant for one thing, which is depicted by the giant ass on the sign.  because kids live with their parents until they are  married, these motels provide a classy experience, i'm sure, for young love birds. anyhow, it's very common and there are TONS, i mean TONS of them everywhere...they're easy to spot with their hearts/cheesy/sometimes inappropriate billboards- like "MASSAGERS IN EVERY ROOM"

guiamum. mmmm
